Ocean’s 8 is definitely a must see! It actually exceeded my expectations, as I really was not expecting it to be that good. I have watched so many movies that were packed with stars that flopped, but this one excelled beyond my imaginations. Okay, lets get into what made this movie BOMB, asides from Rihanna’s gorgeousness!
It took Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) exactly 5 years 8 months and 12 days to plan the biggest heist of her life. Debbie has just been released from prison and reconnects with her friend, Lou(Cate Blanchett). Debbie and Lou recruit a team of the best people, which include jeweler Amita (Mindy Kaling), street con Constance (Awkwafina), suburban mom Tammy (Sarah Paulson), hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna), and fashion designer Rose (Helena Carter). Their target is a vintage diamond Cartier necklace worth $150 million, and the heist would be carried out at the Met’s annual Costume Gala. Rose is tasked with convincing actress Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway) to wear this necklace at the gala so that the ladies can steal it using a well devised plan.
Why did I love this movie? It kept me at the edge of my seat right from the beginning till the very end. The storyline was very interesting and unpredictable. What made it even much better was that it was hilarious! When Debbie said “Somewhere out there is an 8-year-old girl lying in bed dreaming of being a criminal. Let’s do this for her.”, I literally almost choked on my popcorn from laughing too hard. Then we have the scene where the waiter had the necklace on the tray but was carried away talking about weed!I was almost sure my blood temp was rising because i was so scared that they would get caught or the plan was about to go downhill. I felt exactly the same way when the guard was about to walk in on Amita in the kitchen when she was working on the necklace. There were just so many scenes where things could have gone really bad and honestly, that is what makes a heist movie pretty good!
The end of the movie was so good. I was so mind blown when they revealed that they had stolen other jewelries after they evacuated everyone from the gala to search for the missing necklace. When they showed the scene of how they actually accomplished this, it left my mouth wide open. Although it seemed just a little unrealistic that they didn’t get caught stealing all those jewelries in that particular scene, it was pretty funny how they distracted the workers. I also thought that the detective working with the insurance company was going to suspect that Debbie was behind the heist after she sent him that picture implicating her ex boyfriend, simply because he had brought up the fact that she may have been trying to frame her ex. It didn’t add up to me that he took her word for it, but then again it makes sense if he was just trying to close the case which happens a lot.
Overall, it was definitely a really good movie!
I would rate this movie an 8.5/10.
