Eight women have come forward to accuse Morgan Freeman of sexually harassing them on his movie sets. In a CNN report, 16 women spoke to CNN regarding these allegations, 8 of which claim to be victims of this assault, while the other 8 claim to have witnessed the assaults. Some of the alleged victims include a production assistant that worked on Freeman’s 2015 “Going in Style” movie set, a senior member of the production staff from his “Now You See Me” movie set and CNN reporter, Chloe Mena.
The “Going in Style” assistant mentioned that Freeman touched her inappropriately several times without her permission and commented on her body figure. She also mentioned that there was an incident where Freeman tried to lift her skirt and freaked out when she told him to stop. The “Now You See Me” production staff said that Freeman made inappropriate comments about the female bodies on his set, so they were very careful about how they dressed around him. Former employees of Freeman’s Revelation Production company also stated that he made inappropriate comments, with one of them stating that he would come over to her desk to greet her and just stare at her breasts.
A former executive at Revelations also backed up these claims by stating that
“[He would] stand maybe within an inch of their face and just look them up and down and not say anything and then would move on to the next woman, and he’d stand like within an inch of their face and look them up and down and not say anything, and it was really, really strange,” the executve said. “It was really weird, and he did it to every woman. But of course he didn’t do it to any of the men. He didn’t speak to any of the men.”
As of this time, a rep for Freeman provided the following statement from the actor: “Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.”
In light of these allegations, Vancouver’s transit authority, TransLink, said it is “pausing” announcements featuring Freeman’s voice.
“In light of information we’ve learned through news stories this morning of serious allegations against actor Morgan Freeman, TransLink has decided to pause his voice announcements as part of a VISA ad campaign on the transit system,” the company said in a statement on Thursday morning.
